The Gens de Garonne (People of the Garonne – English version available)

Print PDF

Gens de Garonne, Couthures-sur-Garonne (information on opening hours and prices)

A moving and human story of the lives of those living beside the Garonne at the beginning of the 1960s. A quay on the Garonne, a shad fisher, Roger’s hairdressing salon, then the rumours…a great flood is coming.

The story mixes real life and fiction. The inhabitants of Couthures-sur-Garonne, whose lives are intimately linked to that of the river, have collaborated in writing this scenario, a 45 minute multimedia presentation which allows the spectator, sitting on hydraulic tiered benches, to take part in the rising of the waters on the stage, accompanied by an ‘odorama’.

The traditional fishing in the river (shad and lamprey) constitutes the other theme of "Gens de Garonne". The site also offers a museum showing navigation and fishing on the Garonne.
